‘Time and Space’
Nomadic Arts Residency
Program

The “Time & Space” Nomadic Arts
Residency Program is the first collaborative
project of the Mongolian and Korean Arts
Councils, which provides opportunities
for artists work together in the Mongolian
countryside. Read more

The Museum Preservation Supply project
aims to preserve collections of museums in
Mongolia and built a capacity of museum
conservators on
preservation supported
by ACM-US and Ms.
Ellen Ferguson. In
September 3 museum
experts from The Burke
Museum of Natural History and Culture,
Seattle, USA arrived to Mongolia to facilitate
“Museum Preservation and the Usage of
Supplies Training” in Ulaanbaatar city and
in Dundgobi province. 26 experts from
13 museums participated in the training.
5 types of archival preservation supplies
worth of 15,000 USD were provided to
the Cultural Heritage Center, National
Museum of Mongolia, Fine Arts Museum,
Bogd Khaan Palace museum, Danzanravjaa
museum in Dornogobi, Dundgobi Museum
and Umnugobi Museum.
1st Phase of Amarbayasgalant
Fire & Theft
Security project
ACM Cultural Heritage program in
collaboration with Amarbayasgalant
Monastery is implementing this project that
aims to preserve the unique heritage site
and safeguard the site from fire and theft
by the support of US Embassy in Mongolia.
The project launch held in 24th of June,
2009 at the Amarbayasgalant Monastery in
Selenge province.
As a result of the 1st Phase of the project
the program will get a complex assessment reports and engineers drawings to
replace electrical wiring of the site and
fire and security alarm installation
drawings.
Visit of Arts Council
Korea delegation
In September 2009 on the invitation of
the ACM, a delegation of Arts Council
Korea (ARKO) paid a second official
visit to Mongolia in order to explore
Mongolian arts and culture, learn
about the ACM and other Mongolian
arts organizations’ activities and
discuss about the possible future
cooperation. During their visit they
were introduced with the activities of
Arts and Culture Policy Department
and Arts and Culture Fund of the
Ministry of Education, Culture and
Science, Traditional music department
of University of Culture and Arts,
Modern Art Gallery, Fine Arts Museum
and Mongolian National Museum. Also
the delegation met with Mongolian and
Korean artists, participants of “Time
and space” nomadic arts residency
program implemented by the ACM and
ARKO.
Margaret Mead
international documentary
film festival
In September 2009 the ACM organized
the first Margaret Mead international
documentary film festival in
Ulaanbaatar, with funding of the OSIArts
and Culture Network program
and support of Mongolian National
Public Television, “Tengis” Cinema
and M Club. 13 documentaries from
USA, Israel, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan,
Kazakhstan, Cameroon, China,
Great Britain, Tajikistan and
Mongolia participated in this festival.
Documentaries include those that
awarded prizes from the world
documentary festivals and touch on the
world’s crucial issues such as the Israel-
Palestinian conflict, Chinese population
growth, child labor and domestic
violence. Forums for discussion with
filmmakers and speakers were an
integral component of the program. A
forum highlight included a discussion
on the current situation of the world’s
development of documentary films
with Kathy Brew, an American
filmmaker and former director of the
Margaret Mead Film Festival. More
than 750 viewers attended the film
screenings and discussions. ACM
recieved many requests to organize
thees film screenings at the schools
and universities and broadcast on TV
channels. It shows that there is a great
demand in documentaries and such
kind of events in Mongolia. In this
regard, the ACM is going to organize
more film screenings at the local film
schools.
MoU signed between
Ministry of Education,
Culture and Science and
Civil Society Council
In May 2009, the ACM in collaboration
with the Civil Society Council organized
a meeting of the MECS and arts and
cultural NGOs in order to identify
directions for the future partnership.
This meeting is resulted in signing
a Memorandum of Understanding
between Ministry of Education, Culture
and Science and Civil Society Council.
In the MOU, the ACM was assigned
to represent arts and cultural NGOs to
foster public engagement in cultural
policy making through a training series
for the cultural community on arts
advocacy, fundraising and governance
and organizing Arts advocacy day in
2010.
Four Mongolian arts
organizations and artists
received the OSI-ACNP Grant.
In summer of 2009, ACM has submitted
11 proposals to the OSI-ACNP Grant
Competition and has succeeded to
receive 4 grants totaling 31.740$ for
public arts events and travel grants.
The successes achieved through a
weekly “Individual mentoring” of the
Mentoring Program launched last year
that aim to assist applicants to improve
their application’s quality. ACM is
receiving application every two months
and the grant program will be open
until the end of 2010.
AC M is empowering
young emerging leaders
in the arts
In fall of 2009, ACM launched the
second phase of ACM Fellowship
program and initiated the “Young
Leaders in the Arts” program that
empowers future art leaders with
collaboration of ACM-US and World
Bank. In the course of the program,
27 young leaders with age range 18-
35 were selected and first 4 trainings
were conducted on various issues on
arts advocacy and management by well
known local and international experts
for. “Young Leaders in the Arts”
program will continue until the end of
December of 2009 and ACM Fellowship
program will continue for the period of
2009-2010.
40 dancers were trained in
latest modern dance trend
Past summer and fall, ACM has
organized modern dance trainings by
choreographers from France Pascale
Schmitt and Berta Bermudez from
Spain. Altogether more than 40 dancers
from Royal Ballet School, Grands Pas
Dash Ballet Studio and Tumen Ekh
National Song and Dance Ensemble
were trained in a new dance techniques
and trends. As a result, ACM has
increased its partnership with local
private dance schools and studios.
AC M’s first collaboration
with the Asian Cultural
Council successfully
implemented
ACM’s first successful cultural exchange
with the Asian Cultural Council took
place in February to October of 2009
by sending Ms. Enkhtsetseg, a former
director of Modern Art Gallery of
Mongolia to the US. The program
is designed to increase the arts
management knowledge and skills
of the arts administrators through six
months residency in the US.
Culture Naadam
ACM, Mongolian University of Arts and Culture and METAA Company of Korea organized the ‘Nomadic Spirit Revives’Culture Naadam on July 11 and 12, 2009 for
the second time.
The guests had the opportunities to learn
from the nomadic tradition, arts and cultural
heritage through interesting and interactive
arts and culture activities at different
stations at the ‘One Day in Mongolia’
village including felt crafts, calligraphy,
traditional archery, performance and many
others. The Culture Naadam was supported

Science of Mongolia,
Committee of State
Naadam Festival, Arts
and Culture Department,
Implementing Agency of
the Capital City Governor
and State Opera and Ballet
Theatre and sponsored
by MCS Group, Korean
Foundation, Ministry of
Sports and Tourism of
Korea and Korean Cultural
Management Center.
ACM Fellowship Program
The ACM started the annual Fellowship Program last April with an aim to train the next generation of arts leaders. This program aims to empower emerging cultural leaders through enhancing their leadership, management and marketing skills, and deepening their understanding about cultural policy, arts advocacy, and arts education issues. Within the framework of the Fellowship program, national and international experts conduct workshop and trainings for ACM Fellows, individual artists, art managers and cultural workers. Last September, Mrs.Kelly Tweeddale, Executive Director of Seattle Opera, USA conducted a one day workshop for the ACM Fellows.
Another training on ‘Fundraising in Arts’ was conducted by Mr.Dwight Gee, Vice President of the Seattle Artsfund, as the development of human resource shall play important role in the future development of the sector.
On November 28, the ACM held the next series of trainings in the framework of the Fellowship Program. the trainings were conducted by V.I.Tolstoi, Executive Director of ‘Yasnay Polyana’ Home museum of Lev Tolstoi, famous Russian writer and Elena V. Zelentsova, director of the Creative Industries Agency, Russia. Read more...
THE ARTS NETWORK - ACM Media Advocacy Campaign 2008-2009
The ACM has launched its Media Campaign throught the brand new TV program and the arts and culture page on dailynewspaper this March. Both named as 'Arts Network', the monthly TV program on arts and culture is broadcast on Mongolian National Public Television and the arts and culture page is published on the biggest daily newspaper of Mongolia 'Today'.
Hosted by popular singer and TV and stage personality N. Gankhuyag, the series looks at how the arts are integrated in social development in Mongolia and internationally. Each show includes a panel discussion chaired by cultural leader and composer N. Jantsannorov, getting deep into the heart of what the arts actually mean.In other segments Arts Network explores arts in their social, historical, religious and political context, and l interviews artists and supporters of the arts about what motivates them. Contingent on funding, the show’s producers hope to feature Mongolian artists working abroad, examining how Mongolian culture influences international artforms.
The 'Arts Network', monthly arts and culture page on Today daily newspaper raises facing issues in arts and culture, highlight Mongolian arts and culture, and presents multi-faceted platform for critical discussion of arts issues through diverse writing forms. The ACM continues its Media Advocacy Campaign through 2008 and will continue the Media Campaign in 2009, aiming to tackle broad issues about arts and individual, social and economic development by raising facing issues in arts and culture, highlighting Mongolian arts and culture and presenting multi-faceted platform for critical discussion of arts issues.
‘OSI-ACNP’ Open Grants Competition 2008-2010
According to the contract made between ACM and OSI-ACNP, the ACM announces the OSI-ACNP Competition among Mongolian arts organizations and artists, receives the applications and conducts initial evaluation. In 2008, the OSI-ACNP announced Grant Competition open until 2010, which aim to contribute to enhancing collaborative practices, developing public cultural spaces, building intercultural dialogue and understanding of Central Asian and Caucasian countries.
Also, ACM has launched the Mentoring Program aiming to assist applicants improve the quality of their applications and within the frame of the Grants competition, a quarterly training of “How to write a project proposal” training and a weekly “Individual mentoring” for Mongolian project applicants will be conducted.
Art for Change: arts education program
The “Art for Change” project aims to provide skills in communication, problem solving and creative thinking to children and youth through integrated arts education programs. In the first phase, a three-day workshop was conducted, where professional artists and education specialists collaborated to develop separate curricula for dance, music and visual art. In the second phase of the project the professionals who have written the program curricula trained art teachers from 6 schools in Bayan-Ulgii, Arkhangai, Selenge and Ulaanbaatar. From December 1, 2008 the trained teachers has started conducting after-school programs at the schools #69 and #71 and also at the ‘Gegeerel’ after-education center for disadvantaged children in Songinokhairkhan district. The after-school arts educatiuon program will continue throughout the academic year of education.
