Background
Over the past few years the issue of cultural heritage preservation has become increasingly important in the work of the Arts Council of Mongolia and the broader community. Many projects and grants from the Arts Council have been designed to respond to this growing need. In recognition of this issue, the Arts Council of Mongolia has introduced a Cultural Heritage Program which will work with young Mongolians and with museums and other cultural organizations to preserve the richness and diversity of Mongolian cultural traditions.
The loss of precious cultural heritage and the great competition for Mongolian cultural traditions in an era of globalization have made cultural heritage preservation a priority and the Cultural Heritage Program uses both museums (as repositories of traditional culture, history and tradition) and youth cultural heritage education (as a form of preservation of cultural heritage for future generations) as a means for responding to this need.
In 2006 ACM carried out the Tumen Ekh Tour in North America project, Danzanravjaa Museum Preservation project and the UNESCO SEAL of Excellence project. Click here for more information on activities in 2006.
In 2007-8 ACM continues to carry out capacity building in museum collection maintenance and developing and running of museum art education programs. Furthermore ACM will continue its objective on transmitting Mongolian cultural heritage and traditional knowledge to the young generation through different heritage education pilot projects.
