What is the background of the Red Ger Art Gallery's name?

Red Ger, the gallery's name, grows out of the foundation of the past in a new form. The original concept of the "Red Ger" dates to the 1940s, when Mongolia was a Communist state, and institutionalized education was spreading across the country. A nationwide literacy movement was begun, and all over the Mongolian countryside, red gers were constructed to be centers of education, literacy, and knowledge, from which all people could benefit.

Much has changed in Mongolia since the 1940s, but the idea of centers of education and knowledge is just as appropriate today.
