Capacity building activities and trainings

With the objectives of enhancing and building leadership, management and the advocacy capacities of local arts organizations, ACM carried out series of trainings, lectures and provided short term visiting residencies of international well-known experts in different art organizations.

2008

ACM Fellowship program
In May of 2008, ACM launched a nine month Fellowship Program to empower emerging cultural leaders through enhancing their leadership, management and marketing skills, and deepening their understanding about cultural policy, arts advocacy, and other issues.
ACM selected final ten participants from the areas of fine arts, visual arts, performing arts and arts administration. On May 11 2008, ACM Fellowship program was launched through orientation training on “Team building and Leadership” conducted by Mr. Walter Jenkins. Since its launch, the program has conducted six trainings on “Strategic Planning”, “National Arts Marketing” and “Fundraising in Arts”, “Creative Industry and Cultural Tourism” and “Project Development” in partnership with Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, University of Culture and Arts of Mongolia, ACM-US and experts from USA, Russia and Mongolia. Arts Marketing National Training
In September 2008, ACM organized National Arts Marketing Training in collaboration with ACM-US and Arts and Culture Department of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. In frame of training, two sessions on arts marketing conducted by Mrs. Kelly Tweeddale, Executive director of Seattle Opera Theater for 55 managers and administrators of cultural institutions of Ulaanbaatar and the region and 45 managers of performing art institutions. Her training covered topics on ‘what is arts marketing?’, ‘strategic marketing plans’, ‘marketing research’, ‘building relationships with your audience’ and ‘the difference between marketing and sales. As part of the training, another training took place at University of Culture and Arts for 50 BA and MA level students majoring in arts management and arts administration. Students were introduced to ‘what is arts marketing?’, ‘understanding the performing arts market’, ‘positioning and branding’ and ‘media and public relations strategy’

2007

In 2007, the ACM initiated a 9 month “ACM Fellowship program”, to be announced annually. The Fellowship program is designed to enhance the leadership skills of up to 10 emerging Mongolian arts leaders, enabling them to contribute to greater changes in future Mongolian cultural development. Advocacy toolkit development |

2006

In 2006, the ACM Advocacy Program focused in two directions. One was providing a platform for public dialogue on policy issues and the other was building closer partnerships with government and other NGO’s to advocate for changes in government policies relating to arts and culture and thus enhancing capacities of the arts and cultural sector. The third priority of the Advocacy program was to build international partnerships, especially with Asian countries, to advance dialogue about emerging Mongolian, Asian and global issues on cultural development and policies.

'Leadership in the Arts' workshop |
The “Leadership in the arts” training held in November, 2007 was given to more than 40 emerging leaders of different arts fields. This training introduced basic concepts of leadership, the characteristics of modern leaders, the understanding of conflict resolution and negotiations, and role of the leader in building healthy communities... more

Another highlight of this program was a week consultancy on theater management at the State Theater of Opera Ballet and a series of lectures on theater management hosted by the ACM and by Mr. Stephen Brown, Company Manager of Metropolitan Opera Association, New York.

2005

“Artists in Multifaceted Practice” |
The ACM organized an “Artists in Multifaceted Practice” workshop in September conducted by Davide Quadrio, Italian art historian from “Biz Art” Center in Shanghai and Jay Koh and Chu Yuan, art historians from Singapore and Malaysia. This workshop introduced ideas about the multifaceted activities of artists and art historians and their social role in the development of contemporary art. As a result of this workshop the “Contemporary Art Information Resource Center” will be established and hosted at the “Blue Sun” contemporary art center with the support of ACM and Jay Koh and Chu Yuan.
