ACM media advocacy

ACM’s media campaign has grown in 2007, in order to meet the program’s objective of raising the profile of arts and culture amongst the general public. As part of its regular activities, the program produces a widely distributed monthly calendar of cultural events, a quarterly newsletter, an Annual Report and takes care of the website content and updates at www.artscouncil.mn . In partnership with Mongolia’s leading English language newspaper The Mongol Messenger, ACM also maintains a media presence by producing a page each month on arts and cultural activities.

fghThe Advocacy Program focused on increasing media coverage of arts and culture in 2008, with several new projects. With the support of ACM, the leading Mongolian language newspaper publishes a regular arts and culture page in 2008. With program partner Mongolian National TV, ACM also produces a new monthly arts and culture TV program, which tackles broad issues about arts and individual, social and economic development.

In 2008, ACM started its Media Advocacy Campaign including monthly TV program and monthly page on daily newspaper in order to raise public awareness on arts and culture and its role in the socio-economic and personal development.Media advocacy

The TV program, Arts Network, which tackles broad issues about arts and individual, social and economic development is aimed to provide a platform for critical discussion of arts and cultural issues, to promote critical thinking and evaluation of the arts, to increase the use of the arts in facilitating positive social change and to enhance and sustain engagement with and access to arts and culture. The magazine-style monthly broadcast highlights the work, stories and challenges of Mongolian artists, both within Mongolia and overseas, and serves as a platform for critical discussion of arts issues. Educational and historical components will also be included in the program structure.

The ACM has produced episodes during March-September, 2008 on issues of ‘Is Art a Necessity?’, ‘Whom are the arts for?’, ‘Creative Cities’, ‘Mongolian Art as a Projected Image’ and ‘The Arts and Education’.

The ‘Arts Network’ TV program will be continued throughout 2009. The monthly TV program on arts and culture is broadcast nationally at prime time and reaches out over 50 per cent of the total audience. The TV program introduced new component in the field of arts and culture media bringing model image of arts and culture TV program. By working on new component of TV program, the capacity of TV producers was enhanced and the public awareness on arts and culture and participation in critical discussion of arts issues were increased.

The 'Arts Network' monthly arts and culture page on ‘Today’ daily newspaper aims to create a high-profile avenue for engagement with Mongolian arts, to raise the profile of diverse arts and culture in mainstream media, to introduce arts advocacy issues in the public sphere and to enhance and sustain engagement with and access to arts and culture in the broader Mongolian community.

The ‘Arts Network’ highlights Mongolian arts and culture and presents multi-faceted platform for critical discussion of arts issues through diverse writing forms. The arts and culture monthly page raises facing issues in arts and culture as well as ‘Is Arts a Necessity?’, ‘Whom the Arts id for?’, ‘Arts and the City’, ‘Arts and Culture in the programs of Parties in the Election’ and ‘The Arts and Education’. The ACM ‘Arts Network’ is published monthly on the biggest daily newspaper of ‘Today’ and is also available online broadening the scope of readers. The ACM will continue its media advocacy campaign throughout 2009.

Regular Media advocacy activities

ACM continued its activities promoting Mongolian arts and culture internationally aimed to increase awareness of support and demand for Mongolian arts and of the role of arts in social and economic development.

ACM keeps the public informed about the arts and culture and the activities of ACM through a number of different printed and online outlets, including ACM brochure, ACM quarterly Newsletter, ACM press release and ACM annual report.

ACM produces the monthly arts and culture page on Mongol Messenger, local English newspaper and engaging other media facilities to promote discussion and debate on issues of cultural development and to provide opportunities for different arts and cultural organizations to express their views and discuss the current status of the arts and culture sector in Mongolia.

ACM updates an English-language website about Mongolian arts and culture www.mongolart.mn and the ACM website, www.artscouncil.mn, for more user-friendly and easily accessible for both artists and arts supporters.

Every month the ACM develops and distributes a monthly Arts and Culture events calendar, now in its sixth year, to support and promote Mongolian arts and culture organizations and artists. The calendar is produced in English calendar and involves events and activities held at more than 40 arts and culture organizations. 

In 2007 and 2008, ACM continues its collaboration with Air Trans airticketing company on publishing and distribution of the events calendar, totally printing some 60 000 copies a year and distributed to over 90 arts and culture organizanions, public service offices, hotels, restaurants and international agencies. In addition, the calendar is distributed broadly to over 350 individual and corporate subscribers.
