ACM’s 5th Anniversary

In marking 5 years since its establishment, ACM undertook to promote arts and culture as an integral part of Mongolia’s development.
A 30 minute TV documentary was produced, focusing on both ACM’s work and history and on the importance of arts and culture in Mongolia’s development and was aired on MNPTV, serving as a broad-reaching advocacy tool promoting the vitality of arts and culture in social and human development.

On December 7, 2007 the ACM celebrated the 5th annniversary along with the inaugural Arts for Development awards, held at the Khan Bank Theatre. The Arts for Development awards recognized outstanding contributions to the promotion of and advocacy for the sustainable development of Mongolian arts and cultural heritage. Each of the five awards carried a cash prize of T555,000, and included a specially designed certificate and trophy.
ceremonyThe Arts for Development Award for Guardianship of Cultural Heritage was presented to Z.Altangerel, the Director of the Research and Training Center at the Dornogobi Museum. The Arts for Development Award for Artistic Excellence went to the State Morin Khuur Ensemble.
The Arts for Development Award for Business Leadership in the Arts was presented to Director of the State Opera and Ballet Theater, B. Sergelen.
The Arts for Development Award for Outstanding World-wide Promotion of Mongolian Arts and Culture went to film maker D. Byambasuren, whose film The Story of the Weeping Camel was nominated for an Oscar at the 2004 Academy Awards. The Arts for Development Award for Leadership in Community Arts was presented N. Jantsannorov for his outstanding leadership across the entire sector.

The Award Ceremony was attended by more than 400 guests from the arts, business, media and government sectors. It served as a major advocacy event, enhancing understand of arts and culture as an essential and inseparable part of human and social development.
