ACM Fellowship program

In May of 2008, ACM launched a nine month Fellowship Program to empower emerging cultural leaders through enhancing their leadership, management and marketing skills, and deepening their understanding about cultural policy, arts advocacy, and other issues.

ACM selected final ten participants from the areas of fine arts, visual arts, performing arts and arts administration. On May 11 2008, ACM Fellowship program was launched through orientation training on “Team building and Leadership” conducted by Mr. Walter Jenkins. Since its launch, the program has conducted six trainings on “Strategic Planning”, “National Arts Marketing” and “Fundraising in Arts”, “Creative Industry and Cultural Tourism” and “Project Development” in partnership with Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, University of Culture and Arts of Mongolia, ACM-US and experts from USA, Russia and Mongolia. ACM also provides networking opportunities for the fellows by involving them in ACM activities including ACM Board meeting, public events and project implementation.  

The Training ‘Arts Marketing Policy and Planning’
The ACM started the annual Fellowship Program last April with an aim to train the next generation of arts leaders. This program aims to empower emerging cultural leaders through enhancing their leadership, management and marketing skills, and deepening their understanding about cultural policy, arts advocacy, and arts education issues. Within the framework of the Fellowship program, national and international experts conduct workshop and trainings for ACM Fellows, individual artists, art managers and cultural workers. Last September, Mrs.Kelly Tweeddale,  Executive Director of Seattle Opera, USA conducted a one day workshop for the ACM Fellows.

The trainings were organized by the ACM in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science with the support of ACM-US. Mrs.Kelly Tweeddale has a background of over 20 years in the performing arts with a focus on developing new audiences, managing major transitions, integrating technology.

The training content was developed based on the current needs and demands of the local and urban arts institutions and covered areas of arts marketing, strategy planning, conducting market research, sale and public relations. The training was of high significance as the training involved issues as well as arts marketing, how to promote the arts products and provided important tips and best  practices in the USA, current and future trends in the arts marketing. Mrs.Tweeddale conducted also a one day workshop of ‘Arts and Culture marketing policy and planning’ for arts marketing students at the MUCA and another training for arts and cultural workers in the sector held at the KHAN Bank Theater. The trainings held during September 25-27, 2008  involved over 100 executives, managers and cultural workers of museums, ensembles, theaters.

Training ‘Fundraising in Arts’
Another training on ‘Fundraising in Arts’  was conducted by Mr.Dwight Gee, Vice President of the Seattle Artsfund, as the development of human resource shall play important role in the future development of the sector. The training held on was aimed to provide fundraising skills to ACM fellows and the arts and cultural workers.

The training was of vital importance and could become an effective ‘cultivation’ for the human resource in the sector to enhance their capacity in fundraising and increasing knowledge on how to raise funds.  The trainings held during October 22-24, 2008 involved over 100 participants of the MUCA, arts managers and ACM Fellows. Mr.Dwight Gee, the President of ACM-US (Arts Council of Mongolia-US) has very depth-in knowledge on the current situation of the sector, is going to hold a national training aimed to enhance the capacity of the human resource of the arts and culture sector in 2009 upon the request and support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Trainings ‘Creative Industry’ and ‘Cultural Tourism’
In November 28, the ACM held the next series of trainings in the framework of the Fellowship Program. the trainings were conducted by V.I.Tolstoi, Executive Director of ‘Yasnay Polyana’ Home museum of Lev Tolstoi, famous Russian writer and Elena V. Zelentsova, director of the Creative Industries Agency, Russia. They provided important information and best practices of creative industry and cultural tourism in Russia to ACM Fellows and participants from MUCA.
